ISO 4026 - Hexagon socket set screws with flat point

Hexagon socket set screws with a flat point, the ISO standard that replaced DIN 913: the same headless screw as the cone point ISO 4027 and DIN 914, but the thread ends in a flat face that presses on the shaft instead of biting into it. The screw is threaded over its whole length and driven by a hexagon key in the socket of its other end, so it sinks fully into its hole and nothing stands proud. A flat point holds by friction and leaves the shaft unmarked, which makes it the point for parts that are often reset, for shafts with a ground flat, and for adjusting and stop screws. The flat face dp is about 0,7 d and is reached by a 45 degree chamfer from the thread; on short screws, up to a length that depends on the size, the chamfer at the socket end is 120 degrees instead of 90 and the socket is shallower. Steel screws are made to hardness class 45H and stainless steel ones to classes A1-12H, A2-21H, A3-21H, A4-21H and A5-21H; the thread is ISO metric coarse with tolerance 6g and the product grade is A. Covers threads M1,6 to M24 with lengths from 2 to 60 mm.

ISO 4027 - Hexagon socket set screws with truncated cone point

Hexagon socket set screws with a truncated cone point, the ISO standard that replaced DIN 914; the flat, dog and cup point versions are ISO 4026, ISO 4028 and ISO 4029. The headless screw holds a hub, a collar, a gear or a lever on a shaft: the cone point bites into the shaft, or into a spot drilled for it, and keeps the part from turning and sliding. The screw is threaded over its whole length and driven by a hexagon key in the socket of its flat end, so it sinks fully into its hole and nothing stands proud. The point is a cone of 90 degrees with a small flat at the tip; on short screws, up to a length that depends on the size, the cone and the chamfer at the socket end are 120 degrees and the socket is shallower.

ISO 4028 - Hexagon socket set screws with dog point

Hexagon socket set screws with a dog point, the ISO standard that replaced DIN 915: the same headless screw as the cone point ISO 4027 and DIN 914, but the thread ends in a short plain cylinder, the dog, that enters a hole drilled in the shaft or a groove along it. The screw is threaded up to the dog and driven by a hexagon key in the socket of its other end, so it sinks fully into its hole and nothing stands proud. The dog locates the part by its shape instead of holding it by friction: it keeps a hub or a collar in a fixed position or lets a part slide along a groove without turning, and it also serves as a locating pin or a pivot. The dog diameter dp is about 0,7 d and is reached by a 45 degree chamfer from the thread; short screws, up to a length that depends on the size, have the short dog z of about a quarter of d, a shallower socket and a 120 degree chamfer at the socket end, longer ones the long dog of about half of d and a 90 degree chamfer.

ISO 4029 - Hexagon socket set screws with cup point

Hexagon socket set screws with a cup point, the ISO standard that replaced DIN 916: the same headless screw as the cone point ISO 4027 and DIN 914, but the thread ends in a hollow cone, the cup, whose sharp rim cuts a ring into the shaft. The screw is threaded over its whole length and driven by a hexagon key in the socket of its other end, so it sinks fully into its hole and nothing stands proud. The cup is the most widely used point of a set screw: its rim grips a plain round shaft firmly without a drilled spot and resists loosening under vibration, which makes it the point for pulleys, gears and collars on plain shafts, and the mark it leaves is only a small ring. The rim diameter dz is about 0,6 d and is reached by a 45 degree chamfer from the thread, and the cup inside is a cone of about 120 degrees; on short screws, up to a length that depends on the size, the chamfer at the socket end is 120 degrees instead of 90 and the socket is shallower.

DIN 914 - Hexagon socket set screws with cone point, ISO 4027 modified

Withdrawn German standard for hexagon socket set screws with a cone point, a modified version of ISO 4027 with the extra sizes M1,4 and M1,8. The headless screw is threaded over its whole length and driven by a hexagon key in the socket of its flat end; its 90 degree cone point bites into a shaft and keeps a hub or a collar from turning and sliding. Sizes up to M5 end in a sharp point, larger sizes in a cone with a small flat at the tip; on short screws the cone is 120 degrees and the socket is shallower. Made of steel to hardness class 45H and of stainless steel A2 and A4. Covers threads M1,4 to M24 with lengths from 2,5 to 60 mm. Replaced in 2004 by DIN EN ISO 4027, which dropped the sizes M1,4, M1,8, M14 and M22 and the lengths 14, 18, 22 and 28 mm and changed the socket tolerances; the two are interchangeable.

DIN 915 - Hexagon socket set screws with dog point, ISO 4028 modified

Withdrawn German standard for hexagon socket set screws with a dog point, a modified version of ISO 4028 with the extra sizes M1,4 and M1,8. The headless screw is threaded up to the dog and driven by a hexagon key in the socket of its other end. A 45 degree chamfer leads from the thread down to the dog, a short plain cylinder of diameter dp, and the dog length z counts only this cylinder. Short screws, up to a length that depends on the size, have the short dog of about a quarter of d, a shallower socket and a 120 degree chamfer at the socket end, longer ones the long dog of about half of d and a 90 degree chamfer. Steel screws are made to hardness class 45H with a 5g6g thread, stainless steel ones to A2-70 up to M20 and A2-50 above, or of A4 and C3; the product grade is A. Covers threads M1,4 to M24 with lengths from 3 to 60 mm. Replaced in 2004 by DIN EN ISO 4028.
