DIN 985 - Prevailing torque type hexagon thin nuts with nonmetallic insert

Outdated standard

Withdrawn German prevailing torque hexagon thin nuts with a non-metallic insert, the low form beside the high DIN 982: unlike ISO 10511, which replaced it, it keeps the DIN 934 widths across flats on M10, M12, M14 and M22 (17, 19, 22 and 32 mm instead of 16, 18, 21 and 34 mm), has a taller steel body and is taller overall on most sizes. Product grade A for threads up to and including M16 and product grade B above. The steel body carries the thread, and a non-metallic insert, such as polyamide, is held in a crimped collar above it. From M5 the overall height is about equal to the thread diameter. Off the shelf parts are still commonly supplied to this older specification. Covers metric coarse pitch from M3 to M48 and fine pitch threads from M8x1 to M48x3.
