ISO 12474 - Hexagon socket head cap screws with metric fine pitch thread

Hexagon socket head cap screws with metric fine pitch thread instead of the coarse thread of ISO 4762, product grade A. The screw is the cap screw of ISO 4762 with a fine thread: it is driven by a hexagon key seated in a socket sunk into a plain cylindrical head, and the thread diameter fixes the head diameter dk, the head height k, the socket size s, the key engagement depth t and the reference thread length b of 2d + 12 mm, as on the coarse thread screw. A size is the thread diameter, the pitch and the length, as in ISO 12474 - M12 x 1,5 x 80 - 12.9: M10 is made with pitches 1 and 1,25, M12 with 1,25 and 1,5 and M20 with 1,5 and 2, each pair sharing the head. The length decides whether the screw keeps a plain shank or is threaded up to the head. Covers threads M8 x 1 to M36 x 3 with nominal lengths 12 to 200 mm, in property classes 8.8, 10.9 and 12.9 and in stainless steel. It replaced ISO 21269, which also covered M42 x 3 and larger: those sizes were dropped because their smallest cross section lies between the head and the shank instead of in the thread. Together with ISO 4762 it replaced the German DIN 912.

ISO 4762 - Hexagon socket head cap screws

Hexagon socket head cap screws with metric coarse pitch thread, product grade A; the fine pitch version with the same head is ISO 12474. The screw is driven by a hexagon key seated in a socket sunk into a plain cylindrical head, so the head can be buried in a counterbore and nothing stands above the surface. A size is the pair d x l: the thread diameter fixes the head diameter dk, the head height k, the socket size s and the key engagement depth t, while the length decides whether the screw keeps a plain shank or is threaded up to the head. The reference thread length b of the table is 2d + 12 mm and applies only to lengths above the full thread limit of that diameter. Covers threads M1,6 to M64 with nominal lengths 2,5 to 300 mm. Its German predecessor DIN 912 was replaced by DIN EN ISO 4762; the fine pitch counterpart is ISO 12474.
