ISO 8734 - Parallel pins, of hardened steel and martensitic stainless steel (Dowel pins)
Hardened parallel pins, known as dowel pins, which locate two parts against each other and carry the shear load of that joint. The pin is a plain ground cylinder toleranced m6, pressed into the reamed hole of the one part and locating the other; both ends are chamfered by c and the surface is ground to Ra 0,8 micrometres. The standard names two types and a stainless grade, but they are three materials of one and the same pin and share one dimension table: type A is through hardened to 550 HV30 to 650 HV30, type B is case hardened to 600 HV1 to 700 HV1 at the surface, and grade C1 martensitic stainless steel is hardened and tempered to 460 HV30 to 560 HV30. Covers nominal diameters from 1 to 20 mm with lengths from 3 to 100 mm.
